Lux Mundi PhD Scholarships in Chinese Theology at Cambridge
The Cambridge Centre for Chinese Theology announced on 29 September 2026 that Lux Mundi Inc (USA) is offering two PhD scholarships for research in Chinese Theology in the University of Cambridge Faculty of Divinity.
The awards are intended for strong doctoral projects that develop Christian theology in Chinese contexts and contribute to discussion across global theology and Sino-Western cultural exchange. Award holders will join the Faculty’s research community and may participate in the Centre’s academic collaborations, research administration and day-to-day work.
Possible areas of research
Projects may explore any relevant area, including:
- Chinese dogmatic and philosophical theology
- Biblical hermeneutics for Chinese communities
- Theology engaging science in atheistic contexts
- Theology and Chinese literature
- Christian spirituality in Chinese contexts
- The reception history of theology
Funding and start dates
Lux Mundi will pay the full tuition fees and contribute £8,000 per year towards maintenance. One studentship is for entry in October 2027 and the other for entry in October 2028.
How to apply
When applying to the Cambridge PhD programme, indicate under Funding Sources that you wish to be considered for the Lux Mundi Scholarship. The application deadline is 15 January 2027.
Eligible applicants will be assessed through the University’s usual PhD admissions process. Two Faculty of Divinity academics will interview prospective candidates. The Faculty will recommend candidates to Lux Mundi, which will make the final selection and fund the award holders directly.
